Friday, February 28th

Date: Friday, February 28, 2014
10:00
Weather: 25°, Sunny, Breezy

Surrounding Conditions:
Ground was hard and unsaturated.
Some trash on the stream bank (hubcap still present).

Stream Conditions:
Stream Gage Reading = 14.0 cm
Water was very clear with little to no turbidity.
The device was free of debris.

Thursday, February 27th

Date: February 27, 2014
5:30 PM
Weather: Sunny, high of 30, gusty

Surrounding Conditions:
The ground was fairly soft and unsaturated. Little evidence of trash, though there was a grocery bag present. No serious signs of soil disturbance.

Stream Conditions:
The clarity of the water was very good; the stream bed was clearly visible. There were some small conglomerations of scuzzy bubbles on the surface that appeared to come from upstream at a consistent rate. Examples of the bubbles can be seen in the last two picture below. No other noticeable suspended objects or substances were observed.

Other Notes:
It was noted that the water level in the stream must have been at least an inch higher within the past several hours, based on the observation of a uniform watermark along the concrete surface of the weir and box culvert. See pictures for example.

Stream Gage Reading: 14 cm

Tuesday, February 25

Time: 3:30 PM
Weather: 40°, mix of sun and clouds, windy

Surrounding Conditions:
Ground was hard and not saturated.
Trash, including a hubcap, was on the stream bank.
A biological engineering class joined us in the creek for experimentation.

Stream Conditions:
Stream Gage Reading = 15.0 cm
Water was very clear with little to no turbidity.
Debris, including a Target plastic bag, was stuck on device.

Monday, February 24

Time: 12:15 PM
Weather: High 30's, no cloud cover, sunny, windy

Surrounding Conditions:

Ground was hard and not saturated.

Stream Conditions:
Stream Gage reading = 15.5 cm
Little to no turbidity; very clear water

Debris was still covering the LEWAS in-stream equipment but was removed.

Friday, February 21

Date: Friday February 21, 2014

Time: 8:50 AM
Weather: Mid 40's, raining, fairly windy, heavy cloud cover.

Surrounding Conditions:

Little snow was left surrounding the site.
The ground was completely saturated.

Stream Conditions:
Stream Gage reading = N/A due to the very high water.
Extremely turbid

The stream appeared to be at peak flow after a heavy precipitation event earlier in the morning.
LEWAS' in-stream equipment was covered in debris and almost completely submerged.

Time: 1:05 PM
Weather: Mid 40's, sunny, no cloud cover

Surrounding Conditions:
No snow surrounding the stream.

Water had recessed back down within the stream banks leaving some of the surrounding areas inundated from the earlier high waters.

Stream Conditions:
Stream Gage reading = 24.5 cm
Highly turbid water

LEWAS' in-stream equipment was still covered in debris (including plastic bags)

Thursday Februrary 20

Date: Thursday February 20, 2014

Time: 3:30 PM

Weather: Mid 40's with little wind and no precipitation

Surrounding Conditions:
Very little snow remains, mostly only where it was piled by scrapers
More trash was surrounding the stream than in previous days
Ground is highly saturated from snow melt

Stream Conditions:
Stream Gage reading = 17 cm
Lowest turbidity yet
Bottom fairly visible aside from deeper pools
LEWAS fairly free of debris
High moderate flow through weir and stream bank

Water is far less turbid than previous days.

A significant amount of the snow as melted, and the soils are very saturated.
